The original was pretty much the same. I kept it like that and just changed the annoyance of automatically dropping down holes mainly since I thought the rest of the game didn't need changing. Plus the game has some unnecessary stigma to it so I wanted to keep it as similar as possible.

More sounds will be added in the future as I'm still learning how to use Audacity to generate sounds. I think I did pretty well with the ufo sound.

Yeah I know with the 3D effect but it's my first game with C++ and 3rd game overall so I learned quite a bit with it! :)

[Edit]:
As for not sure what to do, I think I'll add some instructions to the next update.

Cool. I wasn't criticizing the coding at all, and as I said I can see how this could have much more potential. And not falling down the holes seems like an excellent improvement - I remember reading lots of criticism about that "feature" :)

BTW This month's Retro Gamer mag (issue 164) dropped through the door today and it has a feature about the original E.T. game by the creator Howard Scott Warshaw. I've not read it yet, so I can;t say if it's any good or not.

Anyway, keep up the good work and do let us know of your progress, especially with regular builds. :)

Version 1.2 of ET Remake on the way

Added:
- version number added to the window title
- added instructions screens
- added hole drop sound
- added reese's pieces pickup sound

Currently working on the music and I've just installed a VM with Slackware and compiled the program and it's running great. So I'm now looking at possibly setting up a MacOS VM.

I guess everyone around here knows about how you suddenly get an idea to remake something, and I had just that recently.
...the idea to make a version of E.T. for the Spectrum. "A small easy game to make" I thought.
Then I watched a video of the gameplay on Youtube and quickly thought - "screw that - no amount of polish is going to make this turd look pretty".
...I hope you can do better than I thought I could. :D

Or you could do a port/remake of my remake. So it'd be a remake of a remake which is a demake.

At that point I think the universe would explode! ;)
