The New Doctor Who Thread!

Thought I'd start a new thread on DW as the old one is well buried back many pages. You never know, it may prompt a few people out of the wood work...

Anyway, what a cracking start to the new series. I didn't mind last year and thought JW's first season was good but dull and lacking in excitement and monsters. Improved loads with Resolution (as well as bringing back the daleks) and now we have more of the same and most excitingly a brand new Master. Top work!

The last 5 minutes also brought back something we all love - a story arc. I have high hopes for the rest of the season (or is that series in the 21st century).

We know the Cybermen are back, I think the Master will return, the Judoon will be mo ch, flo joing in another episode so the fans are getting what they wanted.

Finally, I predict - Sea Devils...

I know that I'm basically alone here but what a bonkers episode tonight! Thought Judoon were great and the return of Captain Jack and another Doctor...a huge move away from the small, intimate episodes from last year...

Only watched the first 2 so far, but loved them.

New Doctor was great - good mix of evil and crazy.

OMG Captain Jack's coming back - best keep that from my wife, she loves him.

And then come back and discuss, perhaps we can bring this old girl back to life a bit.

P.S. Sea Devils prediction looks off after the next time trailer - maybe next year?

So no Sea Devils and a fairly interesting episode although tailed off a bit after a good start.

Next weeks looks pretty interesting.

Got to say that this season is going well and I am enjoying it. Bring on the Cybermen...

For me, once they did the sex change they lost me. Up until the recent seasons prior under Capaldi it wasn't cannon for a timelord to be able to pick their gender.

If that makes me sound like a caveman then that's fine totally. All the more to everyone else. Just for me it was a step too far. I have no problem at all with there being a female lead in the show. Just not as THE Doctor. I'd have been perfectly happy if they'd killed off the Doctor and gone with a new timelord entirely in his place.

The good side is that there is an absolute wealth of decades of outstanding television. Though TBH I prefer the older generation of the show anyway, as it was far darker and more horror like in nature (especially the Hartnell - Tom Baker seasons). Tom Baker best Doctor ever :). So I will always have those episodes, and still forever be a passionate Doctor Who fan for life. Plus every now and then a missing episode or two is discovered and we get a piece of the missing past.

I hope they find the remaining missing episodes of the Dalek Masterplan someday. Or the final part of Tenth Planet.

Nice to have someone else reply!

Not sure I agree with you about a female Doctor - weird at first and as a fan for the best part of 50 years there was quite an adjustment to be made but I got there. To me, she does feel like the Doctor and there have been some cracking episodes this season which is a definite step up from last year (which was good but dull). The return of the Master in Spyfall was excellent and a real surprise (which is difficult to do in the Internet age).

Also. Missy was an excellent incarnation of the Master and plainly was laying the ground work for a female Doctor.

Saying that, I completely agree that there are some cracking stories in the classic series even with wonky effects and bad acting! There are a few missing episodes that I would like to turn up - Celestial Toymaker being one.

I'd have said that despite there being canonical indications that Time Lords could change gender I didn't like the female Doctor because FEMALE she FEMALE wasn't FEMALE just FEMALE the Doctor, she was vastly improved because FEMALE and every bad thing in the universe is caused by Cis White Males who refuse to acknowledge the obvious superiority of FEMALE.
But Whittaker's second season has vastly improved. I have very much enjoyed it, aside from the dead dull opening 2-parter, and am quite excited for the finale.
also, Jo Martin was a much better Doctor than Whittaker!

This season has been streets ahead of last year in the excitement stakes and there have been some really good episodes. The last two have been really good and the final episode looks promising. New look Cybermen are excellent and I like the new Master so good to see him back/ I'm a but worried how everything is going to tie up but at least there are an extra 20 mins!

Not debating female/male - she's a decent Doctor - not the best but not the worst. Lacks a bit of gravitas but definitely becoming more interesting as she gets darker (and she is attacking the Master in the trailer).
