Hehehe. I was wondering if someone would spot that. Yep I drew the main guy based on that and had a vague backstory idea of him being captured or something (said it was vague).

Re: WIP: Escape From Cyber City
Sheesh has it been that long? Well seem to back to avoiding hospital and have started tinkering with this again. Not hugely motivated, but adding bits here and there
1. Basic menu page 2. Added nodes that display the map and enemies

3. Added prisoners you can rescue
http://tamtoucan.com/junk/prisoner.mp4
4. Added robots being able to shoot particles (currently have beam and lightning). For a laugh I set the scale to x10 in this clip, but I might actually keep it.

I've also changed the wall graphics. Based them on the Frenzy bezel, but I'm really not sold yet (I'm terrible at colours).
Next I'll probably add some power ups.

Re: WIP: Escape From Cyber City
Had a bad few months, however back in the coding chair. Took a diversion to work on new version of the generic config editor I used to have. It supports headtracker, oneswitch (2 types) and standard key/mouse/pad controls and it's to let someone tweak all the obscure stuff that I don't want confusing the main options. I had to do a new version because my new framework used Google Flatbuffers instead of my own sort of .ini style config.
That gave me a breather to get some motivation to work on the actually game. I added a shield power-up (not happy with the FX yet) and a SUPER-PUNCH which doesn't stop when you hit a wall (unlike the standard punch). Still need to work on the FX for this as well.

Next up I'll probably design some more robots (have the graphics, but not the behaviours). Then I can start trying to turn it into an actual playable game. Not thought about an ending though.
I doesn't look pretty, but that's because it's meant to be as simple a UI as possible. That gave me a breather to get some motivation to work on the actually game. Another couple of bad months, but the end is within sight. Defined all the robots (weapons, movement patterns, colors etc) and all the mazes. Now I'm populating the levels and seeing how they play. No sound or music yet and not worked out an end level.

Looking great, Tam! Mind you I'm only basing this on the video, but gameplay-wise it looked at times like you were being attacked by something not on-screen. For me as a player, it feels a bit unfair. Not sure if it feels different to actually play...
Keep going!

Yeah. It's actually more stealthy than run-about-shooty. Since you only have punch and it takes a second to charge it up, so you're always at the disadvantage unless you plan each fight. A blast from off screen usually won't kill you and your health re-gens quickly, So best to turn, run and wait. And use the over view map to watch what's happening.
I am considering trying to have a zoomed out view as part of the accessibility stuff. It means drawing more etc and the glowy stuff can get quite expensive so might only be usable on better machines than my 5yr old heap of junk.
